Remembering Jack Charlton

February 1987. Ireland had not yet qualified for Euro 88 in Germany. The Green army had yet to emerge. But Jack was in Cork and we were asked to host a lunch in Lovetts for Jack as the FAI were promoting a new national draw.  Jack was in great form as it was the week after Ireland had beaten Scotland 1 -0 with a valuable Mark Lawrenson away goal.  Michael and Dave Ronayne had been to this match, which was a great week as Ireland had also played Scotland in rugby in same week. We had been sponsoring the “player of the match“ for the previous 2 years and we had great fun over lunch with Jack discussing our choices; Jack was pleased with our choice of nominating Dave Langan, and of course Dave R had to inform Jack of his own career as a right full back!!!! The 2 lads look a bit different now!
